Preheat oven to 175°C. Grease a 23 x 33 cm baking pan or line with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and granulated sugar. Mix in cocoa powder and vanilla extract until smooth.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients in two or three batches, mixing just until combined. Stir in dark chocolate chips.

Spread brownie batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a knife inserted in the centre comes out with moist crumbs.

Allow brownies to cool completely in the pan before decorating.

Coat the surface with black icing for a haunted effect. Pipe orange icing, and adorn with Halloween candies. Melt white chocolate chips and drizzle over the top as desired.

Let brownies stand a few minutes for decorations to set. Cut into squares and serve.
