Combine paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, sea salt, basil, oregano, and thyme in a small bowl. Mix well.

Brush one side of each salmon fillet generously with melted butter.

Sprinkle the blackening seasoning evenly over the buttered side of the salmon fillets, coating thoroughly.

Preheat a large cast iron skillet over high heat until very hot.

Place salmon fillets, seasoned side down, into the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes without moving to develop a dark crust.

Brush remaining melted butter over the cooked side, then sprinkle additional seasoning if desired.

Turn the fillets over and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until salmon is opaque and flakes easily.

Remove from heat and serve immediately, optionally garnished with red pepper flakes, fresh herbs, or a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.
