# What You'll Need:

→ Main

01 - 500 g ground beef
02 - 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
03 - 1 teaspoon onion powder
04 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
05 - 1 teaspoon salt
06 - 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
07 - 400 g cream of mushroom soup
08 - 400 g cheddar cheese soup or additional cream of mushroom soup
09 - 800 g canned sliced potatoes, drained
10 - 150 g cheddar cheese, grated

# Step-by-Step Directions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 175°C.
02 - Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, about 7 minutes. Drain the excess fat.
03 - Sprinkle onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper over the beef mixture. Stir to combine thoroughly.
04 - Add cream of mushroom soup, cheddar cheese soup, and drained sliced potatoes to the skillet. Mix until evenly incorporated.
05 - Transfer the mixture to a 2-litre baking dish and level the top. Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese evenly over the surface.
06 - Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20–30 minutes, until the centre is heated through and the cheese has fully melted.
07 - Remove from oven, let rest 5 minutes, and serve warm.

# Helpful Notes:

01 - Substitute fresh thinly sliced and parboiled potatoes for canned potatoes to enhance texture.
02 - For variety, layer in vegetables such as green beans, peas, or corn.
03 - The casserole may be assembled ahead and refrigerated; add 10–15 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from cold.
04 - Try different cheeses such as Colby Jack or mozzarella for alternative flavor profiles.
