Chocolate Pound Cake (Printable Version)

# What You'll Need:

01 - 1 cup all-purpose flour
02 - ¼ cup cocoa powder
03 - ½ teaspoon salt
04 - 5 large eggs separated, at room temperature
05 - 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
06 - 1 cup granulated sugar
07 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

# Step-by-Step Directions:

01 - Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175°C). Spray an 8.5 × 4.5 × 2.75 inch loaf pan generously with cooking spray.
02 - Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl: the flour, cocoa powder and salt.
03 - In a clean bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
04 - In another bowl, mix the butter with the sugar until well combined and creamy.
05 - Mix in the egg yolks and vanilla until well combined.
06 - Add half the flour mixture and half the egg whites and mix until combined. Add the remaining flour mixture and mix well. Fold in the remaining egg whites with a spatula. Do not over mix!
07 - Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and bake for about 1 hour. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
08 - Let the cake cool in the loaf pan for about 15 minutes. Run a knife around the sides of the loaf pan to loosen the cake and turn it over onto a cooling rack. Turn it upright and allow it to cool completely before slicing.

# Helpful Notes:

01 - Make sure egg whites are at room temperature for maximum volume when whipping.
02 - Beat butter and sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy; this can take several minutes but is crucial for texture.
03 - Add a teaspoon of instant coffee granules to enhance the chocolate flavor.
04 - Ovens vary, so start checking the cake after 50 minutes.
